Regulations regarding vehicle greenhouse gas emissions address only the vehicle's use phase. Since lightweight has a direct impact at the fuelconsumption, material choices that result in the lightest mass may be preferred if one considers only the use phase. However, to fully assess the environmental footprint, all phases must be taken into account. This includes the emissions resulting from materials production, the manufacturing, the use phase and the recycling. This approach is called the Life Cycle Assessment. With this interactive app, user can compare the climate impact of an AHSS-intensive (advanced high strength steel) to an aluminium-intensive vehicle. For well-founded material choices regarding sustainable mobility, this app gives users the answer quicker and easier.
